Along with being the dedicated, cultured physician, I am also a continuous learner. A physician must be there for their patients and must give everything they can to help them in the best way possible, which is a huge responsibility of a physician. I don't skip class, I don't skip practice, and when I say I will do something I give my best effort. Then having to commit to going to an 8am lecture when there is the option to skip class and take a nap instead. There are many days when one does not wish to wake up at 5:30am on a Tuesday and go give their best effort in running a fitness test and then max repping on squats right after. Another huge component of playing a division one sport is commitment. Through playing soccer, I've been able to master time management and communication. I have been able to educate children intellectually and emotionally, which is a big responsibility of a physician. Both programs have allowed me to interact and appreciate children from different ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds. Volunteering for Ebenezer outreach center and Diabetes Dayton have made huge impacts on me. We had to take steps both with failures and successes, and now we are being published. I also learned a lot about the process of working as a team, and not knowing the answer but still finding information. Physicians are always learning, and by working together and sharing knowledge, success flourishes. Being able to work my way up in a brand new environment is a huge component of being successful in the medical field. I worked hard, studied and stayed after labs and lectures, and asked many questions. All of them had much more experience with microscopes then I did. There were three graduate students in there and myself, one of which who had her PhD and another who was working on it. In the spring of 2018, I was admitted into a graduate microscopy class to further our research. Through my research I have joined a team of graduate students and been able to network, study, and become an independent, integral part of the team. By being able to be thrown into situations that are new, uncomfortable, and seemingly intimidating.
